The 2005 Travels of Richard n Shirley

We are fulltime RV's. This means we have no other home but our motor home. We joined the Escapees RV Club and use their mail forwarding service and forum. In addition to Escapees forum, you can find us on rv.net and lrv2.com. We are Richard n Shirley on all of them. We access the internet with a Direcway satellite dish mounted on a tripod. We do set up the dish at every place we stop for the night or more. We are #2321 on datastormusers.com. Click us and you will find our current location.

More views of the Badlands. Reminded me of west texas and the painted desert.

A overlook out at what was formed by vulcanos many years ago. The colors varied from reds to tans with the green growing in between.

Can you see the large objects sticking out of the wall of the cliff? Its a well known hard object found else where. Send me some guess and if I get a right guess in a couple of days, I'll post the answer. You will all be a bit surprised.

And look what they were doing. I asked Shirley about going horseback riding, she has never been on a horse. She said ok. So we will "hopefully go riding" while we are here.

The plan is to visit Medora tomorrow. Its a real good looking tourist trap. We will find our dump station, water connection, price of gas and look around.

The tan looking critter is a prairie dog. There werelots of "towns" as we drove the loop.

And Shirley fixed us burgers before we went sightseeing on the park loop road.

Here is some of the badlands that we got on the camera. A varied terrian, some desert like, arrid and all.

Here is our new camp site in the Teddy Roosevelt National Park near Medora, ND. we arrived here this am about 8. This is our camping area. As you can see it has all the modern conviences of hot/cold running water, shower and eating facilities. We plan on being here at least 2 days, more if the "skitters" will leave us alone. And the flies are terrible. Their bit hurts! We carry 2 fly swatters, one for each of us. The cat is on his own!
I will post more pics as we do a bit of sightseeing. Some today and tomorrow.

and its all gone to the birds

And its a fishermans holiday

Its called the Enchanted Highway.

Enjoy the view.
The deer jumping over the fence.
Look out!! Its giant grasshoppers.
And a flock of birds.

Last of the metal work done along the highway. Very impressive from a distance and up close. The man that did all the work had a vivid imigination and ability to see the images as he created each of them.

The detail is very impressive. See the bloomers the tin woman has. And can you see her hair? Keep looking as there is more to see in these and all the other images.

This was a 62 mile out of our way trip that I wanted to do to see all this. The town of Regent, ND is just after the tin man and woman. The man wanted to bring traffic to his town so that it would not die. The advent of our automobile and interstte highway system has spelled death to many a small town. We travel mostly the back roads as this is where the sights are.

Now its on to Dickinson, ND to spend the night. Wally world or a campground, both for free with no hook ups.

And this is one of the "rough riders" of another era. There is him, his horse and the stage coach.
If you guessed Teddy, your right.

We had a thunder storm and it had hail. For a while there was a tornado warning. As of this time there is another warning for Morton county where we are, New Salem, and its getting darker to the west and south-west.

Here is a few pics of the hail so far. If there is any damage, we will have to wait to determine that. We are not able to get out and on the rv roof yet. We will have to wait and it may be tomorrow. There is another cloud sw of us. Its not coming our way.

We got hit a second time but much lighter. There was some hail but not as much. We will have to look tomorrow. So far no broken glass.
We will move tomorrow. We will be going to Dickinson, ND for the night.

Here is our city park campsite in New Salem, ND. Lots of room. 20 and 30 amp with water. The dump station is behind the service station on the right at the exit from I94. Its in the very back of the station.
The park is a half mile further south and just past the fairgronds. All parking would be parallel. The water is under the covered 4 poster and highly visible in the second picture under the light.

A must see for all especially us veterans.

I94, exit 208, Dawson, ND. Ask about the city park for camping. A turn around is at the next corner past the memorial.

And here is the largest buffalo I could catch and get a picture of. Just could not get DW to get her picture.
Actually this is a 60 ton concrete giant. Its in a tourist trap area of Jamestown, ND and we came to see it. Dw, Shirley, got to get some thimbles she was unable to find for some of the states we have been through. Dont know the count but its growing. She has been collecting since we started this in 2001.

I thought you might like a look at th thunder head that cme through with the cold front. The stoem went south of us but we still got some rain. I got the bugs washed off the glass just before it hit so the windshield is cleaner.
A very nice rainbow too.

We are in Jamestown, ND dry camped at the wall-mart. We had planned stops from the casino but thay didnt work out. all of the little towns at about 60 mile intervals had nadda for parking. So we spent last night dry camped at the supercenter in Fargo, ND. Not at all what we wanted. Way to much traffic.

So, this am we got up and headed west and our planned stops again did not work out. We got asked to leave the place we stopped in Valley City, ND. It seemed the body shop owner has been urged by the city to not allow camping on his property. The city is in the camping business at the city park about 200 yards away, at $13.75 per too. So we moved on.

This is a nice place too. the town is set in the valley and a river runs through the town. There are some attractions we must go see and get pics for you to see. I have been "ordered" to not show some now but will see if I can later. There pics are a gift for the birthday boy. So, MUM IS THE WORD!!!!

This is our cat relaxing on the floor. So far he has been traveling well. When we are moving, he stayes under the passanger seat, Im not sure if its more out of pure fright than anything. He has never been one to ride, even to the vet.

These are a few days or weeks old but this is him in is work mode. We call him Tom Cat but he goes by the name of "stinky". Not that he does. It is short for stink pot. Besides he does know the diference. He is a good cat,a bit spoiled but a good cat. Since it is to windy to travel and there is nothing else to say, I present our Stinky!

We are still at the casino. Spent last night in the lot. Tonight we are in the rv area paying our $10.50. Shirley is washing clothes while we are parked That is usually $8.00 at a coin laundry so one of the two is nearly free.

We gased up this morning. The gas posted the day before was $2.26.9, today it is $2.19.9. We put in $100.00 worth. We got 6.78 mpg. The only expense so far on the chassis is a new radiator overflow bottle. For the coach, we had to replace the shower control on the wall as it leaked, and a new hose. The leaked is about fixed and the hose replaced the split one we had. The fixture still leakes behind the wall. A little bit of silcone and that will be history. This winter we will have some body work on the front and rear to fix the cracked fiberglass and some other work. The rear one is mine compliments of a flying J in TN.

Tomorrow we plan on going north on I29 about 60 milesto Oxbow and stop for the day. We are making 60 mile hops and headed west to the bad lands on ND. Once we get there we will be in a federal park where I can get a golden age pass. Hopefully there is lots to see. From there its a short trip south to the black hills of SD. We will get our mail in New Salem too. Its been 2 weeks.

One later planned stop is the fall escapade in IL in Sep. After that its headed to Texas and the VA clinic to get my 6 mo check up and new Rx meds. I have a left knee, actually left of the knew, problem when I kneel and put my knee down. I get a sharp pain.

The wind is really blowing, has been all day. At times, it has been over 30 mph and them gusty. But its cool at less than 80. Just glad I'm not driving in this!! Also, we have cell service on the interstate. Its when we are off on the back roads that we lose service. And thats is most of the time since we see more on the back roads. Email works well for us if you cant get a phone call through. Calls from ATT, now Cingular, are free and dont count on our cell time. Besides. we have yet to use our 450 minutes. And we dont pay roaming charges.
