The 2005 Travels of Richard n Shirley

We are fulltime RV's. This means we have no other home but our motor home. We joined the Escapees RV Club and use their mail forwarding service and forum. In addition to Escapees forum, you can find us on rv.net and lrv2.com. We are Richard n Shirley on all of them. We access the internet with a Direcway satellite dish mounted on a tripod. We do set up the dish at every place we stop for the night or more. We are #2321 on datastormusers.com. Click us and you will find our current location.

I laid down and took a nap this afternoon and had dreams of deer. To keep from losing them, I had pics made from my memory and posted them here for ya'll to see. More pics of the deer in the area.

We went to the South Markum area again and took pics of spaces 105 and 122 for two of our class. You can see these pics here.

We should have a grand time this week and next with all the classmates of 2005. We met Mickey and his wife Patti today.
They are of the class of 2005.

I hope ya'll missed us. We did move to our new location at South Markum, space 125 and set the dish up in three locations and could not get a passing signal. We moved to a space where there was more open sky and still could not get a signal. We spent the night and packed up our stuff and came back to South Sandusky, space 118.

We moved in here around noon and setup and we are here for a while. And it has rained the whole time. And it has been raining this morning. A good hard rain. We came back to a place where we had gotten our last passing signal. And we did learn a lesson on dish setup and signal strength and having a problem.

Here is the problem.
We could get a signal strenght at SM of 65 but not a passing test score. The best we saw would be 54. We moved back to SS and we got a signal strength of 71 but not a passing score. We rechecked the numbers for our gps location, the angle, rotation and skew several times and never could get a passing score. I could understand that at SM with the tree canopy we were shooting thru. There was a hole in the trees we could get a signal thru but I guessed the canopy was diffusing the signal to the point of not passing. This still may be true and a problem. The only exception is at Superior, NE we where under the canopy and got a passing score. The hole in the canopy at our second location was much larger and we should have been able to get a passing score. The signal strength at all these locations was the best that we could get.

And now the solution.
We have adjusted the bubbles so they are in the middle of the glass. We found that the manual setting for the cros pol test was adjustable and involved the skew value. By adjusting the skew similar to sweepng the sky, the test number would and could be adjusted to a passing score. We found this information in the instructions from our supplier Dustyfoot. After making the adjustment, we have a passing score of 74 when we were looking at mid 40's prior to adjusment. So, if your having similar problems, try adjusting the skew for a better number.

Today is tuesday and its rv repair time while we have a place with something besides dirt and grass. Here we have asphalt and a concrete pad to sit on. We need to repair the steps, new twist lock for the refrigerator outside cover, a new dryer outlet cover, and some new clips for the refrigerator spill bars. Plus chair carrier for the patio chairs. As you can see, the actuation arm is broke. To get to the arm requires removable of the motor. In removing the motor, be sure to keep up with the four screws the hold the
motor mounting plate and the location of the arm. Is the arm in, steps in, or is the arm out, step extended. You got to know!

We went to Larry's Trailer Sales in Zeigler for parts and he had all but the refrigerator clips. They dont come as pieces but as an assembly with the bars. The bars are the wrong length for our side x side. We have a working step and a new dryer cover. The refrigerator outside cover is on with new clips and the chairs have a place to ride when we travel.

Thats what we did ths afternoon. Shirley washed clothes this morning and I worked on the rv while she was gone. It was a good day. Tomorrow is a rain day and moving day.

We are moving to the South Marcum location and await the arrival of the class of 2005 members that are coming early. We will then go as a group to the Du Quoin state fair grounds on the 25. See ya all soon.

Its a monday and time to post for the day. I went to Rend Lake and played golf. My cost was $29.00 for senior discount. Well worth the cost as its a fine course. I played the nines listed as 10-18 and 19-27. Yes nines. They have three nines for a total of 27 holes.
The course is a combination of meadows to hills and with water and sand at the right places. The par 3's are not long but are mostly over water. If you got a thing for water, bring extra golf balls.

The fairways are zoisa(sp) and bent grass greens. I like the bent grass for the lightening fast putts. They dont have the 150 yrd markers in the fairway. The yardage markers are on the concrete cart path and 24" stakes. Play the course as its nice and priced right.

Now, these is the mother deer and one of the two babys. The pics are of the baby. They are just pretty with the tan and spotted colors. I'm not a hunter and glad of it. I'd rather look than kill. And no, I'm not getting into the discussion of hunting. If I get hunger, that is a different story.

Ya'll have a good day.
