The 2005 Travels of Richard n Shirley

We are fulltime RV's. This means we have no other home but our motor home. We joined the Escapees RV Club and use their mail forwarding service and forum. In addition to Escapees forum, you can find us on rv.net and lrv2.com. We are Richard n Shirley on all of them. We access the internet with a Direcway satellite dish mounted on a tripod. We do set up the dish at every place we stop for the night or more. We are #2321 on datastormusers.com. Click us and you will find our current location.

We went into town and parked the car by the park and went sight seeing. This town has an active downtown. The buildings have business and they have customers. There is going to be a parade and other activities today. So, we will come back this afternoon for the lawnmower races. This is really red neck country. We came back to the RV and took off for the Locust Creek covered bridge west of town. The bridge is now over a dry creek bed as the creek has been re routed. There is a ¼ mile walk from the car to the bridge because of the re routed creek. We also stopped in the little town west of here where Gen. John J Perishing was born and spent his boyhood. This little town has a dead downtown and not very much in the way of business. How the advent of the automobile has changed our landscape. Back to Brookfield and lunch. And we took a nap to 2pm. It's time to get to town and see the lawnmower races. When we got there they had already started. The mowers were the tractor type and they had souped up mower motors. Fun to watch and all had a good time. There was a class for the kids to race too. Fun was had by all. And fixed the antenna with two new screws.

We got up and got ready to move. Shirley went to the laundry and I got the coach ready to move. Only thing is I forget the antenna was up. At the dump station there is a limb hanging down that can't be missed. After I emptied the tanks and got water, I drove back to where we were parked to wait for Shirley. This is where I discovered the antenna was up. I put it down and it did not sound right. I climbed the ladder and saw it was broken. I temporally fixed it for travel till we got to our new site in Brookfield, MO. We are staying at the city park where they have about a dozen pull thrus with electricity. There is 2 dump stations with water. All this is for $10 a day. The state park rates are $8 for dry camping and $14 for electric. Seems like good rates at the city park to me. Beats a Wal-Mart any day.
There are things going on here in town for Saturday, so we will go see what is happening

We will try our luck this morning fishing. The worms are still alive from yesterday and let see if they will catch a fish. And we did catch a fish, each. We both caught small perch, and I do mean small. Not even pan frying size. The turtles got fed and I quit because of the turtles. Shirley moved down from the coach and this is where she caught her fish

The plans today are to go see the covered bridge at Paris, which we passed coming up here. After the bridge, we will go east to look for the broken lever on the stairs. So far in our travels, we have not been able to find the part “used”. And no, we did not get the part. But, we did find the bridge and it was more than either of us expected. Shirley was afraid to walk the length of the bridge as the boards were loose and you could also see through them. But she did and we both found it very interesting. Took several pictures of both of us. But off to find a RV service and see if we can get our part.

Today is fishing day! Shirley wants to go fishing. So, we will go fishing, all 15 ft away from the front door. We need bait, and bait is at the campground office. But they don’t have chicken livers. So its worms. And Shirley hates to touch worms. And we caught no fish, not even a bite!

We arrived at the Shelbina city park and lake we found a long, slender lake with the park on both side and a 9 hole golf course. We drove the car around the lake looking at campsites to find one for us. We ended up at E2A which is on the east side at the dam . It is the flattest site we could find that was available. There were some other sites but they were taken. The price is $9 a day with electricity and $1 for dump station privileges and water. Every four days we must dump and get water. So, come Friday we must dump. We spent the day setting up and resting from the narrowest roads since TN. And no shoulders!

It has been raining since late Sunday. It's about 8am and we have rain. We will sit here till it stops or stay another day. Lost our satellite signal too. But got that fixed between downpours. And it does downpour. Rains here are in the inches range, not in the fractions of an inch. Did a little bit of internet access, helped Shirley with cleaning the fan screens, two of them, and she got the bath room fan working. It seems it is tied into the timer. This is how it starts and stops. I went outside and waxed more of the coach. As high as I could reach, I got the front done, the right side to the door, the let side past the slide out and to the last window. The wax makes a real difference in the appearance of the finish. When I get all I can reach from the ground, then it is ladder time to get the high part. With the ladder comes inspection of the roof to side walls. But that is another day. Tomorrow, if it doesn’t rain, we will move north to the town of Shelbina and their city park, lake and the golf course.

This morning is laundry time. Shirley sorted everything yesterday. Off we went to the laundry.
We got back about noon and put most of the clothes up. The shirts had wet collars and were hung in the bath. Next chore after lunch is, oops, we got a water leak. The carpet is wet at the bathroom door. In investigating the source, I could hear water dripping. I opened up the access panel in the bedroom and the shower wall was wet. We took off the shower fixture and put some silicone caulk behind it and put it back in place. The fixture is held in place by two large thumb nuts. The water line from the fixture is threaded all the way and accepts both the bulk head nut and the water compression nut. The problem is it still leaks. I cut a piece of my tool box tray mat and put it between the wall and the bulkhead nut and it still leaked. I then got a hose washer and forced it on the pipe and threaded it a bit. I then tightened the bulkhead nut down and attached the water lines. We stopped for an hour to let the wall dry out. Turned on the water and we have a very slight leak. Enough of a leak that it very slowly runs down the wall. We can make it to a supply store and get a new fixture. I think we have bad threads as this is where it is leaking.
By the end of the day, Shirley had made a trip for food, the tanks were dumped, water tank was filled and we were ready to go Monday. All I had left to do was check the tire pressure
