The 2005 Travels of Richard n Shirley

We are fulltime RV's. This means we have no other home but our motor home. We joined the Escapees RV Club and use their mail forwarding service and forum. In addition to Escapees forum, you can find us on rv.net and lrv2.com. We are Richard n Shirley on all of them. We access the internet with a Direcway satellite dish mounted on a tripod. We do set up the dish at every place we stop for the night or more. We are #2321 on datastormusers.com. Click us and you will find our current location.

And here is the fog and the MississippiRiver bridge at I255. We took the bypass around St Louis with light traffic and a road construction sign for I70 in dowmtown. So around we went and added a good deal of time and miles. And here is the sight we found on our bypass journey.

This is a concrete bridge with cable suspended roadway. It is four lanes wide and fairly new. As you can see there is a good amount of fog. San Francisco does not have a claim on the fog.

The traffic was light and bearable. The speds we travel are usually 50 in the country and 60 on the interstate. This keeps us from being run over. However, when we got to il, the speeds were dramatically different.

Here is a few pics of our road trip form Nebraska to Illinois. If you haven't been down US 136 from our starting point of Beatrice, NE east to US I29 in Missouri to KC, MO and then east on I70 to St Louis crossing the mighty Missouri two times and then the Mississippi into Illinois, then take a drive thro the "heartland". Twice as we crossed the Missouri River we were greeted by "watch for fog". That was a surprise.

And being greeted with a road closure, I35 over the Missouri in Kansas City MO. Yap tis true. The sign went on to say follow alternate route....

A couple of pics of the barges that bring some of our goods to us. These were taken over the Mississippi south of St Louis on I255.

This pic was of the bridge over the Missouri also at St Louis. The bridge at NE to MO on US 136 was so narrow that Shirley played "cat" and closed her eyes. The tow dolly is about the same width as the coach at 102". Lots of the roads we have been on were 120" at most and with a 6" shoulder. She said that the tires on her side were rubbing the steel spacer at the road level. I was concerned about the mirrors clearing between us and the trucks. So close that I never did look into the backup camera and see where the dolly tires were.

And here is the photo of the flag I promised. It is in the middle of the street. The downtown is only a block long ether way. The town itself is small but it is a cute town and if you wanted to move to a small town, here is another.

Oh, bye the way, we have moved and we are enroute to our new location. We are at I70 and state 13 in the "show me state".

Its just one of those days. We are stuck in the rv, cant really get out and its down right cool. There are lots of you out there looking in to our world and wanting some of what we have. Well, its ours and we want to keep it for a few days. And it looks like we will get to. So there.

We have three tv channels to watch, ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC kinda. NBC is the worst of them all. But its viewable and it has sound that we can understand. So I guess thats four. With ABC, where is the golf? I Told DW yesterday, now that we got ABC, the weekend is over. Oh Humm, cant have everything. We have in motion satellite but there is no receiver. Guess we will have to get one for next year to be able to have tv.

For those who have asked about our safety and security concerns, we are careful where we park If it doesnt feel safe, we move. I dont like being the only one here. And in most of these little towns, there is no local law enforcement. This town relys on the county and state. And we figure there is little to no crime here so we feel safe. Superior, NE had a four man city force. All the 911 calls went to the county and were dispatched from there. The county had a four man force also.

The road to Deshler was narrow and with no shoulder, unless you count the grass. Our tow dolly was between the lines, sorta. When we passed a car/pickup, they had to move over a bit as I was just on my side and the dolly was on the line. We did pass a truck and the dolly wheel went off the line onto the grass. We and he got over enough for our mirrors to miss. Like I said, narrow.

Wont be a pic today. Not even of the race car. The inside of the rv is lived in and we have our maps out looking for our next stop. If you have not guessed yet, it has rained all morning and right now its stopped. The road is a big puddle at the turn with lots of little puddles in between. Yep, we hand washed the coach and now its rained. But its a cool 73.

Take a look at the sky in the pics and see if you can see the clouds. If you see the clouds then you know they are rain clouds and waa-laa. It poured down. So, the pic of the race car will wait till today, and I did want to go into "town" and get a couple of more. The American flag has a very prominent place and I do want to bring it forth for all to see. As a ARMY veteran, Viet Nam, I'm very proud of our flag and the freedoms we have.

My dear, sweet wife has a sore back. She twisted it trying to open those day/night shades. She fell about a year ago and hurt her lower lumbar area and now she is suffering abit. If I can get her to be a lazy bum for a while, she should get better. If not, then to Texas we go and get medical help. She has not hurt it where she needs to be hospitalized. More as this warrants.

I got an email from Ron Bunge. He is adding our bloc to his links page. I have linked him here for you to see his web page, HitchItch. Once I get the hang of this bloc, I will set up a link page and more. I want to get all the pics uploaded of our trip and I have some uploaded now. See the link to websites in the posting of yesterday. There is my family genealogy page, and more.

This is our new park for a few days. Its a bit to exposed to the road for me. Way to much car noise at anytime day and night. We will stay here for probably 3-4 days at most. We have to empty the tanks on day 5 and the dump station is close but it is a move.

There are 3 places by us and across the white bridge is atleast 10 more. All have 30 amp and are new connections. Water is at every other box with a 2 way splitter. Ours has a box on both sides of the post but its not a back in. The others are the same and could be backins. They backup to the road and could be noisy. But its still
FREE per the sign on the way in from the west.

We did not find a coin laundry so come with clean clothes. There is a market here and gas on the way into town. The town is off the state 136. Turn at the city sign from the east or at the gas station from the west. The nearest golf is Hebron which is 10 miles east or Superior and Nelson which is 27 miles west. The nearest walmart is west to Hastings. If there is a closer one east we are not yet aware. Since we are going east we will find out and add an update to this posting.

There is a nice area by the rv that a golfer can practice a less than 100 yard pitch shot. Its not long enough for anything else. There are 2 lighted ball parks east of us. The Thayer County Fair is held here and there is a nice race track about 50 yards away. They have racing on sunday night thru the summer. We saw the last one in Blue Earth, MN and it was fun. If you havent seen the posting, you missed something. when they get uploaded, all the pics I have taken will be for public view. There are far more pics taken than posted here on this blog. So stay tuned for the upcoming pics.

See here for the photo's uploaded so far.

It is cleaning day as we move tomorrow. I am doing the outside while Shirley is doing the inside. She has done the kitchen, bathroom and shower, yuk, and floors. She washed clothes yesterday at the local laundry as we are not hooked to a sewer connection. She probably has more to do.

I have put water in the 6 batteries, checked the tires and added air to the rear duals, washed the rv from roof to ground and stopped to wipe my face as it is 100% humidity. My nice clean clothes are soaked now. I still have to service the engine, genset and tranny. Since I have no service manual on the thing, so I check the tranny with it running and in park. After all that, there is the levelers to check and add tranny fluid and clean the windows. I will have to lower the coach to check the levelers.

The rv got washed the first time in a month I know. Really dont remember when it got washed the last time. I even sprayed the tires to make them look black. Dresses up the coach nicely. I got the battery in my race car charged and will run it when I get my work done. I will take a pic so you can see my little race car. When we stayed in Hermosa, SD, somebody had a rc airplane that he was flying. Yep, a gas airplane at the rv park. Take a hobby with you so you can enjoy your stay at some of these places. I still enjoy my golf and bowling and fishing. They are just a bit expensive.
